Pasta with Smoked Salmon

This is probably one of my our favourite dish. It is our emergency dish and we love to stuff our face with this one. You know, when both of us are really tired from work or school, so very hungry but so very tired. We I will always end up making this pasta cause it is easy and takes very little time. There is one catch, you'll have to have a packet of smoked salmon in the fridge like us but don't worry, this works with normal frozen salmon filets as well. I first read the recipe here

Here's how I make the dish.

Boil pasta, drain and rinse with ice-cold water.

Dice 2 medium sized onion, 3 clove garlic and 2 cili padi. The chili padi is to give a little kick, optional. Fry them in Olive oil until aromatic.

Chop some fresh parsley.

Throw in some smoked salmon strips and fry to infuse some flavor.

You'll need 2 dollops of chunked tomato from a can and 2 dollops of fresh cream cheese. You can use Joghurt, Sour Cream or Cremé Fráiche if you're on a diet.

The recipe calls for white wine but I use apple juice.

Throw in some capers and black olives. I also add frozen peas.

If the broth is too runny, add cream or milk or apple juice. Season with salt and pepper. Heat up the broth, don't boil! Then throw in strips of salmon (around 200g) and the pasta in there.

Tadaaa.. Misch Masch. Yumm da Dummm..
Serve with sprinkling of fresh parsley.

ps: Mamak&Mami will be updated, but probably not as frequent as before since mami is back to school.

Dinner at Tatsumi

We were recomended a new Japanese restaurant by malaysian friends a while ago and naturally we had to check out the place. : D. It is rather difficult to find a decent Japanese restaurant around we live and by decent I mean, a large assortment of dishes at a relatively cheap price. To find out about this restaurant was a real treat. So today, we had dinner there.

Let's check out Tatsumi!

This was our gratis appetizer. A salmon salad with a dressing that taste almost like kuah rojak. No kidding.

This one is our 'second appetizer'. We ordered appetizer since we didn't know that we were getting any the first one for free. It's called Nuta Ae, slices of raw fish with a rich sour miso dressing. Oh heavenly.

Our main course was the Osaka platter with a set of Shake Uramaki.

Very pretty presentation.

This is how the sushi bar looks like.

Mamak ordered Matcha ice-cream for desert.

I was so happy that I get to order Daifuku. All this while, I have only seen mochi on videos and pictures. These are my first Daifuku ever and I loved it. They tasted like an oversized buah melaka with kacang merah fillings. Yum!

At the end of our course we were offered free digestives of Calpis.

All in all, it is pretty good. Ambience was cosy. I love the pretty Japanese deco they had. They made me forget for a while that I was in Germany.

Next time we'd like to try the tempura!

Fishy Lunch at Lake Constance

This is Pakcik R and his wife. On her birthday in January, we promised to take her out for lunch. So finally we had the group together yesterday and treated her lunch at this restaurant, which she chose herself.

The restaurant called Seehaus, which means 'Lakehouse' is located, as you can see, directly near the Bodensee, in english the Lake Constance.

Pretty overwhelming view. When the weather is clear, you may see the Alps in this direction.

The salad was our appetizer. If all salad were like this, I could be a vegetarian.hehe. Delicious dressing.

This is little P's dad. He ordered the salad platter and he was so surprised to see that it was so huge. It was served with assorted fish fillets.

This is Mamaks plate. Felchenfillet or white fish, sautéd with almond butter. Served with boiled potatoes. The fish is caught in this very lake! Fresh!

The trainee is a vegetarian. This dish is called Spätzle, a noodle type very typical here. Hers was Spinach Spätzle with cheese sauce, served with lots of bawang goreng.

This is Jarmans Sejati's plate. It's house-smoked salmon served with mustard dill sauce and savoury crepès.

This was mine! Pakcik R and his wife ordered the same one. Kretzerfillets (Perch) fried in egg batter. Also served with boiled potatoes. These fishes were also caught at the lake.
This one is Jarman Sejati's mango yoghurt ice-cream. Mamak and I had espressos after lunch, since there were no room left in our tummy for deserts.

It was very nice to have a beautiful food for lunch, nice weather, great conversations and lovely view.

We'll surely be coming back to this restaurant this summer, kalau ada rezeki :).

Semalam pegi pasar dapat beli fresh salmon so bleh la nak buat sashimi. This is my amateur attempt of Salmon Sashimi, served with Daikon Radish.
(Ni kalau tunjuk kat japanese chef mesti fail nih..hehe.)

Yang ni pulak Tuna Teriyaki, seared Tunafish steak and glazed with Teriyaki sauce. I used frozen tuna saja, but still so yummy.

We ate all this with Soya sauce, Wasabi and Gari (pickled ginger slices).
Okaylah, thats it.

Have a nice Sunday !!

(ps: hunnybunny, I miss pickled baby octopus..huhu..sini takdak juai aaarrr...)

Bihun Tomyam Seafood

Bihun Tomyam Seafood

Kalau mamak makan tomyam alamat berpeluh-peluh dahi dan mukanya menjadi teramatlah merah. Hidung tu takyah ckplah, memang berair but he loves it.

Nasib baik Tomyam senang nak buat, lagipun paste tomyam senang nak beli kat sini. Boil water taruk paste, campak lemongrass (bukan blogger Kak LG tu ye!), more cili padi and daun limau purut. Then I campak any vegie yang ada dan sesuai. After that campak udang dan fishballs. Season to taste and serve with bihun. This is my way of making tomyam, I know there are those who makes tomyam from scratch which will taste so much better because of the fresh ingredients. As said, some of the ingredients are hard to find here, so I'm thankful for tomyam paste or cubes!

Jom layan gambar makanan....

DSC_0018 copy

Yang ni fish sticks and mashed potatoes topped with bawang goreng. We learnt a lesson that day : Never use festkochende Kartoffel (a potato type that are firm when cooked) and a hand blender when making mash potato. Muahahah...It turns out like 'kanji ubi kayu' rather than the normal mashed potato. Nasib baik rasa macam normal mashed potato..hehe..

DSC_0023 copy

On top is mak mentuas Chocolate Cinammon Macarons, which looks a little dodgy but tasted perfect. At the bottom, my marble cake.

DSC_0025 copy

Kalau kita raya, biskut raya mesti dihidang berasingan dalam bekas kuih raya yang cantik² kan. Pastu bekas kuih raya susun cantik² atas meja, kekadang penuh meja sampai takleh boh menda lain...hehe. Omputih raya senang, depa campoq suma jenis biskut dalam satu pinggan, hang nak makan kalu, pandai² la pilih sendiri. Anyway biskut dalam pinggan tu adalah Heidesand (shortbread), Vanillekipferln (Almond cresent cookies) and Butter cookies with chocolate frosting.

I end my entry today with my mak mentuas Almond Truffles. Its chocolate with diced almonds dusted with cappucino powder. Sapa nak recipe sila angkat tangan hehe..Delish!

Selamat mencuci mata!

Salmon en Croute lagi!

Yesterday we ate salmon en croute again. Why? Sbb puff pastry dah sampai tarikh luput yesterday..haha. Ushar² dalam peti, our mozzarella pun dah nak basi. So instead of making the normal one with cremé fraiché, I used mozzarella.

DSC_0003 copy

I seasoned the mozzarela tu intensively before lining them on the salmon fillet because mozzarela cheese can taste a tiny bit neutral.

makan panas² so that the cheese is still gooey...served with stewed carrots with tomatoes..YUM!

Kami jarang makan fresh fish sebab mahal. Selalunya frozen fish. Kalau duduk Malaysia seronok kan, tiap-tiap hari makan fresh fish kan. Pi market, mesti ada fresh fish. Gemok-gemok pulak tu...hehe..Sini mana nak cari..

That day murah rezeki, we found fresh pollockfish (Seelachs) fillet for 4,50€ at around 400g (tu dah kira murah dah tu). Since both of us dah lama tak makan fish, kami pun beli la.
