Lahlingg..I'm Home....

Lahling?..Lahling?...

Oh well, I'm home and mamak is still at work. Guess I'll have to eat lunch alone today since he's having lunch at work.

Homemade Curry Wurst. Well the wurst are bought, the ketchup , the curry powder and also the fries. Erm..I guess, I could say that it's Home 'prepared' Curry Wurst.

What is Curry Wurst? It's the national dish of Germany, some might say. But then why Curry? Isn't curry supposed to be Indian or something. Well, I didn't understand it as well, but I heard Curry Wurst is to the German, what roti canai is to Malaysia. Bila terasa lapar, pergi kedai, order Curry Wurst. Basically a grilled sausage, cut-up and served with lots of 'special' sauce and a generous dash of curry powder on top. Surreal huh?

This is not restaurant posh food, it's street food. When you pass a curry wurst stall, you'll be attracted to the smell of grilled sausage. The sauce is considered special because every stall seems to have their own secret recipe. Since all of the Curry Wurst Stalls I know don't sell any Halal wurst, I created something familiar myself at home and re-arranged to look like those bought at the stalls. My special sauce was Heinz chili ketchup! Not to forget the traditional toothpicks and a bunch of fries on the side.

Have a great weekends y'all!

Yakitori Tare and my not so original Apple Crumble

Aaaachhooo!!!! Both of us caught the 'grilling fever'. Just last week we grilled, today both of us heated up the charcoal again.

Today instead of grilling sausages, I prepared ayam sticks. Teringin nak makan style yakitori tare, so pagi tadi gigih di dapur dok debone a whole 1,3 kg chicken. I used all of the chicken parts except for the breast, because they tend to get dry when not grilled correctly.

I just marinated them a little with salt, white pepper and garlic powder before piercing them onto the bamboo skewers. Note that there's only two mushrooms skewers, they're for me and only me, because mamak tak lalu nak makan cendawan..:).

Then when they are about done on the grill, we brushed them generously with my home-improved teriyaki sauce, there's the recipe below. I made some simple mee goreng to eat with these chicken sticks, sorry aaa foto mee goreng lupa nak ambik.

Just a while ago I made this apple crumble. It's not the traditional one, because I used biscuits crumbs and cornflakes instead of flour, since tepung dah habis kat rumah...muahahah. Sedap jugak. Kalau sesiapa yang interested, silalah tgk recipe kat bawah naa. We enjoyed this sambil minum kopi and layan the 70's show.

...................................................

Recipes:

Home improved teriyaki sauce:

1/2 cup sweet soya sauce or *teriyaki sauce
1/2 cup salty soya sauce
1/2 cup apple juice
4 tablespoonsfull brown sugar
1 tablespoonsfull white sugar
1 clove garlic, smashed
1/2 inch ginger, smashed
1-2 tablespoon cornflour, mixed with some water

Mix all ingredients, except for the cornflour mixture together in a pot, simmer for a while at low heat until all the aromas combined. To thicken, bring the sauce to a soft boil and add the cornflour mixture. Make sure that the sauce boil a little for a while to get rid of the 'raw-flour' smell. Then stir vigorously to avoid clumping and turn of the burner. I made a slightly thicker version of this teriyaki sauce to make basting easier. You can adjust the thickness yourself with reducing or adding more cornflour mixture to the sauce.

* most of the teriyaki sauce sold at the stores here, have mirin, a sweet rice wine as an ingredient. There are a few mirin-free teriyaki sauce, but they taste like normal sweet soya sauce. That's why I like to refined the taste with the ingredients above.

Apple with butter biscuits and cornflakes crumble

2 apples, cored, skinned and sliced.
3 tablespoon sugar.
a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Mix these ingredients together.

around 60-80g butter biscuits
1/2 cup cornflakes
60g diced butter

Blend these in a food processer until almost fine. Add the diced butter and pulse until a breadcrumb-like texture is achieved.

Preheat oven to 190°C. Spoon apple and sugar mixture into a large ovenproof dish, or small individual dish. Cover the fruit with the crumble mixture and bake for 30 minutes.

Voila! oh..don't forget to serve it with a good scoop of vanilla ice-cream.

First one this year folks..

It has been a long winter and we couldn't wait to bring out our griller from our cellar. Walaupun today redup memanjang, both of us sangat nekad nak meng'grill'. Mengestart fire ni semua hamba serah kat big boss la noh.

Alah, kami dok berdua saja, so setakat grill Bratwurst saja..hehe. Semangat lebih kan? But then we both love the smell of charcoal on our Bratwurst, charcoal smell makes everything taste better, unless it sticks to your baju and hair. Tapi org german kata 'Das gehört dazu' meaning all that belongs together, you know the fun of grilling and the smelly clothes just belong to each other.

Sambil dok grill tu, sempat jugak dok usha keluarga burung stork ni. They live in this nest right in front of our balcony. Ni time mak Stork ni dok sorang kat nest, dok jaga baby dia la tu.

Then after a while bapak Stork balik rumah bawak twigs to repair their nest (you may click on the foto for better resolution). So cute. Haha..time spring ni, kekadang kantoi Mak ngan Bapak stork making sweet love on their nest tu. Muahahahah. Sorry aa...terdiscovery channel pulak sekejap.

Aaanyway, ni Kartoffelsalat or potato salad, semalam dah siap buat and left to soak in its juices overnight. Nak ikutkan, original german style potato salad should be a little runny, but I made too little dressing. Oh well, the taste was still good.

Ni plak Feldsalat, shredded carrots ngan daun salad apa ntah satu lagi tu, tak ingat dah nama dia. Dressed with balsamico dressing.

This is how our plate looks like for lunch tadi. I tak sempat nak makan baguette tu pun, the salad dah cukup filling dah.

Finally the two essential accesories to our grilled lunch. Heinz Ketchup and of course German Mustard and I quote Mamak, the best mustard in the whole wide world. Ermm..talk about being patriotic..haha.

Okaylah, hope you guys enjoy the pics..besok gua kelas pukul 11:30 pagi....ish..ish..ish....

Kuih Pau

Kuih pau! Kuih pau! Mari mari...

Kuih Pau ni dinner kami berdua semalam. Ni first time buat ni. Selama ni tak berani nak buat sebab kebanyakkan resipi pakai tepung pau atau tepung hongkong, mana la nak dpt kat sini. Baru ni jumpa banyak pula resepi yang pakai tepung gandum biasa, so boleh la nak cuba. Cuma orang kata kalau pakai tepung biasa, pau jadi kekuningan, tak gebueww gitu.

Pau ni inti kari ayam, kertas tu pulak baking paper yang dipotong kecil-kecil.

Dah lama periuk kukus ni sampai dari mesia, ni baru berpeluang nak guna. Hehe..

Ni pau yang dah siap kukus, kembang semangkuk you! Tak budget nak kembang, seb baik tak kukus ramai-ramai sekali, kalau tak memang melekat la jawabnya pau-pau ni. Alhamdulillah dough menjadi. Paling penting, dough ni dah sejuk pun masih lembut.

This time mami mungkin terlalu tamak, roll dough sampai nipis lepas tu taruk inti bebanyak, so bila kembang, bertambah nipis la dough tu. Apa pun, pau ni tak macam beli di kedai, hehe..kalau beli kat kedai, kulit pau bukan main tebal, inti ciput saja. Pau ni inti membuak-buak, seb baik tak pecah..hehe.

Mamak baru first time makan kuih pau ni, katanya dia kena setting lidah sikit, sebab kat Jerman ni ada juga kuih kukus, nama dia Dampfnudel, rasa sebijik macam kuih pau, cuma takdak inti, makan pulak dengan sos vanila dan blueberry compote. So bila makan kuih pau inti kari, dia terasa confuse sekejap..haha.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Pau dough:

250g All purpose flour, diayak
12g Fresh yeast,
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon baking powder
3 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoon shortening (I use veg oil)
125ml warm water *

Method:

Sieve flour, salt and baking powder into a bowl. Mix with sugar. Make a cavity in the middle of the flour mixture and crumble yeast into the cavity. *Pour in some of the water and start kneading. Add the shortening and knead further. *Only add more water if the dough is too dry, you dont have to use up all of the water. Knead until it becomes a soft pliable dough. Place in a bowl, cover with damp cloth and let rise for 30 minutes at a warm place.

After the dough has doubled in size, knead to release the gas in the dough and roll into a log shape. Cut the dough into 6 portions and roll each portions into a ball. At this time, you can prepare the steamer on your stove. I use the rolling pin to flatten the dough into a round shape, fill the dough with filling and use fingers to gather up the edge and pleat to seal the pau. Place the pau on a small piece of paper (I use baking paper). When the water in the steamer boils, steam them for 10-15minutes.

Omurice dan Chicken Karaage

Mulanya ingat nak pergi tengok Alice in Wonderland, tapi harini tiba-tiba ribut salji, so we decided to stay in saja. Mamak layan his xbox sambil berkain pelikat (haha..is it wrong to be proud of my husband yang suka pakai kain pelikat kat rumah?..I just  love it). I took the time to wash the dishes, cook and layan tenet. Makan pagi pukul 11.30, makan tengah hari pukul 4 petang and dinner pulak makan sandwich saja sorang seketul.

Ni lah yang kami makan lewat tengah hari tadi.

DSC_0011
Gamaknya mami kedekut sangat bab stuffing cheese into the crust, cheese tu tak tangkap leleh macam dlm iklan pizahat. Walaubagaimanapun, rasanya memang bes. I ate two pieces and mamak 3 pieces, the rest tu buat makan tengah hari besok. Huhu..selamat takyah masak.
Layan je lah gambo tu!..hehe

Mee Goreng Mamak dan Cinnamon rolls

Hari ni mami goreng mee goreng mamak for lunch. Malas punya pasal, coq udang mahupun coq bawang tinggal kenangan saja..hehe. Mee pulak pakai spaghetti saja (rindunya kat mee kuning). Walaubagaimanapun telur goreng takleh dipisahkan dengan mee goreng mamak, sebab kalau mami order mee goreng kat penang, sure order telur goreng mata kerbau taruk atas.

DSC_0004

Masa lunch I got very good news lah. Surat sudalah sampai dari skolah tinggi, mami bleh sambung blajar. Alhamdulillah! Melompat jugelah, walaupun sedih sebab mami sudah manje-taik asik dok rumah masak makan masak makan, bela lemak. Pasni takleh dah nak all out masok-masok kecuali bila cuti skolah. Pasni blajar kena gambate dan berani mati lah! Ala-ala tiada maaf bagimu gituew. Insya Allah if everything goes well, start skolah 22hb March ini. Doakan diriku ini ye!..

So to celebrate, I baked this cinnamon roll. Lama dah tingin nak buat, tapi tak brani. Ada skali penah buat dulu jadi serupa biskut, ksian temah kawanku, dia makan juge cinnamon roll serupa biskut itu. Ni ghope macam jadik je, gamaknya berbaloi juge painstakingly ikut resepi. Resepi cinnamon roll tu ambil kat sini ye puan-puan.

DSC_0008
Ni baru keluar oven, belum taruk glaze.

DSC_0017
Ni dah dribble glaze. Kalau ikut resepi takboh glaze, tapi tak bes la kan cinnamon rolls takboh glaze. So I mixed 2 tablespoons icing sugar dengan around 1 tablespoon cream, make sure glaze tu runny enough to dribble.

DSC_0015
Ni lak posing lepas glazing. Resepi ni sangat senang dan Cinnamon rolls ni wangi dan lembut, puas hati. Dah sejuk pun masih lembut lagi.

ciao!

Back Home!

After 12 short days, we are back home. Alhamdulillah the trip back were flawless and we arrived home safely at 18:30 yesterday.

We were greeted by our lukewarm flat with a scent of 'bau kepam'. Our plants are still alive and well though a little thirsty. We plugged into our internet and flowed the long awaited 6000kb broadband. Yeah! Well, all these while we used 367kb broadband for internet because there were no 'pencawang' here in the village. They started building it a few months ago, thanks to Mrs Angela Merkel, our German Chansellor who promised that every village in Germany should receive high speed internet. We heard that we'll be receiving high speed internet on the 5th of Febuary, but at that time we were already at mamaks kampung. So yesterday evening, after logging in the router, we checked the speed and yes 6000kb!

So everything is well and I will use our high speed internet to upload more pictures of our holiday in the near future. Oh! Before I forget...HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!! GONG XI FA CAI!!

With over 60,000 square metres of selling space and more than 380,000 articles available, it attracts 40,000 to 50,000 visitors every day.)

Mamak and Mami dah makan kat Fillet O Fish kat McD (we were too hungry to wait..hehe) unlike Mamaks brother and his girlfriend, who werent hungry earlier. So dah tired gila and malas nak cari tempat lain nak makan, we ended up teman diorang makan kat Ka De We 'foodcourt'.
