Aaaachhooo!!!! Both of us caught the 'grilling fever'. Just last week we grilled, today both of us heated up the charcoal again.
Today instead of grilling sausages, I prepared ayam sticks. Teringin nak makan style yakitori tare, so pagi tadi gigih di dapur dok debone a whole 1,3 kg chicken. I used all of the chicken parts except for the breast, because they tend to get dry when not grilled correctly.
I just marinated them a little with salt, white pepper and garlic powder before piercing them onto the bamboo skewers. Note that there's only two mushrooms skewers, they're for me and only me, because mamak tak lalu nak makan cendawan..:).
Then when they are about done on the grill, we brushed them generously with my home-improved teriyaki sauce, there's the recipe below. I made some simple mee goreng to eat with these chicken sticks, sorry aaa foto mee goreng lupa nak ambik.
Just a while ago I made this apple crumble. It's not the traditional one, because I used biscuits crumbs and cornflakes instead of flour, since tepung dah habis kat rumah...muahahah. Sedap jugak. Kalau sesiapa yang interested, silalah tgk recipe kat bawah naa. We enjoyed this sambil minum kopi and layan the 70's show.

Recipes:
Home improved teriyaki sauce:
1/2 cup sweet soya sauce or *teriyaki sauce
1/2 cup salty soya sauce
1/2 cup apple juice
4 tablespoonsfull brown sugar
1 tablespoonsfull white sugar
1 clove garlic, smashed
1/2 inch ginger, smashed
1-2 tablespoon cornflour, mixed with some water
Mix all ingredients, except for the cornflour mixture together in a pot, simmer for a while at low heat until all the aromas combined. To thicken, bring the sauce to a soft boil and add the cornflour mixture. Make sure that the sauce boil a little for a while to get rid of the 'raw-flour' smell. Then stir vigorously to avoid clumping and turn of the burner. I made a slightly thicker version of this teriyaki sauce to make basting easier. You can adjust the thickness yourself with reducing or adding more cornflour mixture to the sauce.
* most of the teriyaki sauce sold at the stores here, have mirin, a sweet rice wine as an ingredient. There are a few mirin-free teriyaki sauce, but they taste like normal sweet soya sauce. That's why I like to refined the taste with the ingredients above.
Apple with butter biscuits and cornflakes crumble
2 apples, cored, skinned and sliced.
3 tablespoon sugar.
a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg.
Mix these ingredients together.
around 60-80g butter biscuits
1/2 cup cornflakes
60g diced butter
Blend these in a food processer until almost fine. Add the diced butter and pulse until a breadcrumb-like texture is achieved.
Preheat oven to 190°C. Spoon apple and sugar mixture into a large ovenproof dish, or small individual dish. Cover the fruit with the crumble mixture and bake for 30 minutes.
Voila! oh..don't forget to serve it with a good scoop of vanilla ice-cream.
