Mamak was a carrot cake virgin (he never ate one before..hehe) and he finds the idea of making cake with carrots a little weird. I was thinking he's the omputih sure dia tau pasal carrot cake kan. Bukankah kek ni datang from his side of the world? He said, he saw it before but never ate them. So sapa lagi western dari siapa ni? ...hehe..
Bukan apa, teringat zaman I umur 17-18 dulu. Kita ni dulu suka berlagak bagai, makan carrotcake with creamcheese frosting dengan mocchachocalakkalatté kat starbaks, sambil ditiup angin dari kipas yang sembur-sembur air tu, dalam kepala dok ingat waaa...omputihnya gayaku!
Kalau order musti ckp omputih, pasal apa pun taktau, masa tu nak order kat starbaks ckp melayu rasa cam tak kena (so I understood why the once botakheaded actress ckp camtu kat award ceremony dia, she's probably at my phase at that time). Yang ngambik order tu pun lawan cakap omputih, slang negara jiran yang mana pun I taktau, janji bunyi cam high class. Bila pikir balik memang nak gelak guling-guling. So ridiculous and so naive of me kan? Ada ka dok kat starbaks tu dah bleh perasan diri ini transform jadi omputih..
Mamak told me that he thinks we(malaysians) have americanised eating habits sebab he himself has never seen so many mekdonel, kfc, starbaks and kopibean anywhere else. Probabably why I know carrot cake and he doesnt?
Granted that mamak is not an American. In Germany, baik makan kebab dari mekdonel, get more value for money. Iya la, kebab tu kecik sikit saja dari size muka orang dewasa, filled with daging and lots of salads which makes kebab healthier too. The price of kebab pulak usually cheaper than mekdonel. Cuma kalau kat mekdonel tu bleh tgk international music video kat flatscreen and kalau kat kedai kebab nasib hang layan türkish soap opera la..haha.
Back to my carrot cake. Since dia tak pernah makan, I baked one yesterday while he was at work. Simple ja recipe dia.
Mini Carrot Cake (Ø18cm)120g Flour
120g Sunflowerseed oil
1 Egg
100g Brown Sugar
80g Carrot (grated)
1tsp Baking powder
1tsp Cinammon powder
2 tbspn Milk
Takpayah pakai electric mixer pun bleh, just pakai wooden spatula. First beat Oil with sugar, add egg and then fold in carrots, flour, baking powder and cinammon powder. Lastly add milk. Bake for 30 mins at 180°C.
Bila mamak balik kerja, I served him the cake and asked him to guess what cake it was. Sampai separuh kek dah di baham, he still taktau. When I told him it was carrot cake, he's very surprised and told me SEDAP!
(p/s: Jgn silap faham ya, I have nothing against anyone yang makan mekdonel,starbaks dsbg. and those who speaks english in private or public. I still eat at those places and I still skeaping London at times. Cuma la ni takda la nak berfeeling-feeling nak jadi omputih macam time I form 5 dulu..hehe)
