Florentines

Actually I never knew about Florentines, until my pak mentua introduced kat kami. Masa tu the four of us, my mentuas, mamak and I dok jalan2 kat Gurney Plaza, Penang. Pastu kami pi la minum kat Dome Café, sbb my pak mentua seemed to like the coffee there. Ksian kat depa, depa tu 'Hantu Kopi', tapi hotel tmpt depa dok time kat Penang tu tak serve 'real' coffee, they only serve nescafé..kopi instant la katakan. They are not cerewet...minum jugak nescafé, tapi orang kata tak hilang gian...hehe

So kat Dome tu, pak mentuaku pun nampak biskut Florentine ni. Dia pun order, tapi guna isyarat tangan saja la..Waiter tu pun buat2 faham la, senyum-senyum sbb pak mentuaku dok tunjuk2 kat Florentines dalam bekas kaca kat counter tu. FYI pak mentuaku taktau ckp melayu ataupun english, english stakat..good!good! ja..hehe..

So itula pertama kali ku melihat biskut ni..kat Dome ni, the florentines besaq tapak tangan aku...besaq ooo..haha...so aku pun interview la pak mentuaku. Masa dia muda2 dulu, byk pastry shop yang jual florentines ni...tapi sekarang susah nak cari dah..cerita pak mentuaku sambil mengunyah florentines..(pergh macam ayat karangan plak ni)

Anyway, since my mentuas coming over this weekend. I made 2 batches of florentines.Saja nak try ..tapi tak buat the typical ones la..very unorthodox florentines..(purist please do forgive me!)..

Mamak tak makan candied fruits,so I made one batch with and one batch without...got the resepi from Misses Lemongrass...thanks ek kak!..

Mamak ngan I kata sedap...but I'm curious what my in laws will say..Here some pics...
